A 60-year-old Miami woman was killed — and three others, including a child, were injured — when an SUV struck a concrete barrier wall on Interstate 75 South in Miramar, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The woman, who died at Memorial Regional Hospital, was a passenger in the SUV driven by a 30-year-old female who was seriously injured. A 30-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy also in the vehicle suffered minor injuries, the report stated.
All four are related and are from Miami, the FHP said. None was wearing a seat belt, and their identities were not disclosed.
The crash happened just before 2 a.m. Wednesday near the Miramar Parkway exit and it shut down all southbound lanes of the highway for more than six hours.
According to the FHP crash report, when the woman operating the vehicle lost control, the the SUV veered to the right, struck a guardrail, then swerved to the left across all lanes before hitting the barrier wall.
Traffic was rerouted onto the express lanes and off the exit ramp until the SUV wreckage was removed from the highway about 9 a.m. Cars were backed up past Pines Boulevard.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, the FHP said.
