Players are having a bit of trouble making baskets in NBA 2K21 through no fault of their own.
Since release, NBA 2K21 has been facing a slew of issues from connectivity to server crashes, controller issues, and more. One of the largest issues facing players, however, is the interference around shooting and sinking baskets on the court. According to players, this most crucial feature of the game is several leagues more difficult than previous titles—so much so that a patch has been published specifically to fix it.

Why is it so Hard to Shoot in NBA 2K21?
A hotfix was issued from 2K Sports for the shooting mechanic just days after its release. The fix applies to Rookie, Pro, and All-Star difficulties. Higher difficulties such as those on the Beach and in the Neighborhood will not be affected.
The biggest complaint from players is just how hard it is to make a shoot from anywhere beyond right below the rim of the basket. Taking aim from the perimeter is essentially impossible. It's almost as if the game can't process its own physics engine the second the ball leaves a player's hands. If it does travel far enough to hit the rim, it's usually a coin-toss to determine whether or not it goes in.
It has been designed to provide more ball-handling control on the court and a larger range for shooting from the perimeter. The goal behind it is to hopefully provide some assistance for players having trouble.
