The war memorial in Seaton Carew is located on a triangular island located at the north end of The Green, overlooking the Cliff. It was built to commemorate 24 local servicemen who lost their lives in the First World War (235 people, including nine women, had served in the war). The memorial is a Maltese cross with a carved wreath, designed by JH Garry and built by Messrs Ainslie and Collin of Hartlepool. It was unveiled on the 6th of February 1921 by Colonel L. Robson CMG DSO and dedicated by the Bishop of Durham.[1] Following the Second World War the memorial was further dedicated to commemorate those who served in that conflict. The memorial is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
