South Florida woke up to a New Year’s morning temperature of 49, but it quickly warmed up, thanks to bright sunshine.
Capping the coolest weekend so far this season, Monday’s temperature should be the lowest we see all week as the forecast calls for a return to normal temperatures for this time of year, and no frigid cold fronts.
In other words, winter in South Florida is here with the best of both worlds. Lovers of both cool weather and warm sunshine should be happy with the first week of January.
The National Weather Service says the Fort Lauderdale area will experience a high of 73 today and a low that settles several degrees warmer than the past few days at 56.
Tuesday’s temperatures should be about the same, with a high reaching 72.
By Wednesday, highs will reach the mid 70s and the low temperature will stall out in the mid 60s.
A weak cold front on Thursday will bring a 65% chance of rain, and a low back to 60 degrees before rain chances diminish in time for the weekend and the low temperature climb back to 70 on Friday in Broward County and the mid 60s in Palm Beach County.
Next Monday’s forecast calls for just a four-degree swing between a high of 77 and a low of 73. And then rain is expected over the following two days.
The normal temperature in South Florida for January is a high of 76 and low of 61, according to the weather service.
Accuweather rated Monday’s air quality as fair, with low levels of tree, ragweed and grass pollen but high levels of mold and dust and dander. That could impact people who experience sinus pressure, according to the website.
