A player's weapon preference for a Barbarian in Diablo II: Resurrected is going to depend heavily on the build they choose to pursue. The Whirlwind Barbarian is generally regarded as the best Barbarian build because it is capable of dealing massive amounts of melee damage and has enough health and damage resistance to shrug off most attacks.

No matter the build, a Barbarian's stats should reflect their up-close and personal playstyle. Invest in dexterity and strength just enough to be able to wield your weapon of choice and wear endgame level armor, but then dump the rest of your stat points into vitality. Investing heavily in energy isn't recommended as most players rely on a combination of items and skills that increase mana.

Weapon Preference for Barbarian in Diablo II: Resurrected

Barbarians can make good use of any melee weapons, but two one-handed weapons with a high damage per second will clear enemies out the fastest.

Berserker axes usually offer the highest damage per second of the one-handed weapons, especially once the grief rune word (made of the Eth, Tir, Lo, Mal, and Ral runes) has been added. The grief rune word adds damage to the weapon's stats directly, so the actual damage being dealt is oftentimes higher than what the character screen will claim.
