What is steampunk?
There are probably as many definitions as there are variations, but let’s go with this: It’s an aesthetic, a vibe, a groove that is a sorta-kinda mashup of Victorian-era chic and retro sci-fi (think late 19th century). There’s even a little American Wild West thrown into the mix.
But find out for yourself at the second annual Steampunk Adventurers Weekend, coming to at Yesteryear Village in West Palm Beach on Dec. 2-3.
There will be an appearance by Steampunk Santa, daily snowfalls, food trucks and stations, rides and games, vendor stalls and lectures. Other activities will include:
- Teapot racing (motorized teapots)
- Steampunk Fashion Show & Contest (3 p.m. both days; win prizes for best sartorial take on steampunk)
- Duels with canes, parasols and tea
- Frenchy and the Punk (steampunk band)
- Young Adventurers’ Oasis (magic from Rondini, face painting, bubbles and balloon artistry)

“With new attractions like teapot racing, we’re redefining what a festival can be. And yes, we’re making it snow in Florida. Because, why not?”
