With how great GENESIS 5 was overall, it's hard to just choose a few incredible moments from the tournament to highlight. Still, a few great moments stood out above the others, so here they are.
5. Catching Armada With a Lightning Kick
Normally when Sheik transforms to Zelda, that stock is probably gone. Against as good a player as Adam "Armada" Lindgren, that should hold even more true. Still, it was great to see Justin "Plup" McGrath adapt immediately to the turnip throw and just give kick Peach in the face with Zelda's fair to take the set. His smile afterwards made it even better.
4. aMSa Shield Breaking lloD
The shield break alone made this moment memorable enough, but Masaya "aMSa" Chikamoto's decision to let his teammate respawn and let them take the stock was just amazing teamwork and coordination. Who's even seen Yoshi's egg break a shield before?
3. Wizzrobe's Popoff Against Zain
As the culmination of an incredible tense set, Justin "Wizzrobe" Hallett jumped up on top of his chair and acted for a moment as though he'd passed out from the excitement. For scaring the crowd and killing somebody with Falcon's recovery, this was definitely one of the more memorable moments.
2. Zelda Shenanigans in Doubles Grand Finals
Once Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman and Plup knew that they had the second game of grand finals in the bag, M2K switched to Zelda as a part of a super awesome team combo that he executed with Plup, which was perhaps the most memorable part of doubles.
1. Top Players Popping Off With Plup
It's not even just the fact that Plup won the whole thing that makes the grand finals memorable-- it's the fact that most of the rest of the top eight came rushing towards Plup from offstage to congratulate him on his first win at a huge event like that. It was beautiful, wholesome, and very memorable.
