A 50-year old man from Boca Raton died in a crash with a semi-truck and another vehicle on Interstate 95 in Delray Beach early Tuesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The right lanes of the highway remained closed hours later as officials investigated.
A little after 5 a.m., the man was driving his Dodge Caravan southbound in the outside travel lane of I-95, just south of Linton Boulevard, behind a semi-truck driven by 56-year-old man from Georgia, an FHP media release said. A Toyota Camry followed behind the Caravan.
The Caravan failed to slow down in time and crashed into the semi-truck, the release said. The Camry driver, a 62-year-old man from Delray Beach, swerved left to try to avoid hitting the other two drivers, but when the semi-truck tried to swerve left also, the truck’s trailer hit the rear right of the Camry.
The driver of the Caravan was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. The semi-truck driver was not injured.
All three right lanes of the highway just south of Linton Boulevard were closed through the morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol. They have since reopened.
The investigation remains active, according to the release.
