The Miami Dolphins released edge defender Emmanuel Ogbah on Friday.
The cut saves Miami $13.7 million against the 2024 salary cap, with just $4 million in dead cap.
The Dolphins are also planning to release cornerback Xavien Howard at the start of the new league year and have informed him as such, according to a league source.
As a free agent in the 2022 offseason, Ogbah signed a lucrative four-year, $65 million deal with Miami, but it offered an out two years into the contract.
The release ends a four-year run with the Dolphins for the defensive end who had back-to-back nine-sack seasons in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, he began to be relegated to rotational duties off the bench instead of his usual starting role. He also had a triceps injury cause him to miss significant time and finished with just one sack.
Despite very limited snaps in 2023, Ogbah produced 5 1/2 sacks in spot duty.
The Dolphins got good news earlier Friday regarding their salary cap space as the NFL announced the 2024 cap at $255.4 million, an increase of nearly $30 million from 2023 and roughly $12 million more than projections indicated.
