8TH ANNUAL PEEPSFEST

1 Bring the kids to celebrate the New Year with some family-friendly fun at the 8th annual PeepsFest, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at SteelStacks.

New activities include make your own noisemakers with the Banana Factory Arts Center, make your own menorahs with the Jewish Community Center, and the Peeps Olympics, where kids can do four fun and exciting games such as bean bags, a challenging mini-toss and a Peeps toss. Also new this year, is the DaVinci Science Center’s “Using the Force” presentation, where students discover Newton’s laws of motion in fun ways.

The festival will also feature performances by family-folk musician Dave Fry, Brady Rymer & The Little Band That Could, Steve Pullara and his Cool Beans Band, and magician Ari Felber.

Kids can watch the Peep drop at 5:15 p.m., followed by fireworks. This year’s Peep chick is new, measuring 4 feet 9 inches tall and 200 pounds.

‘BEAUTY AND THE BEAST’

2 Sing for America is presenting the musical “Beauty and the Beast” through Jan. 8 at Miller Symphony Hall in Allentown.

The Disney musical is the 15th production by Sing for America, which is made up of five siblings from Palmer Township. The musical features the Academy Award-winning score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman from the animated 1991 Disney movie. The 1991 Disney film was adapted for the Broadway stage. Sing For America raises funds to support families of local military.

INDOOR AUTO RACING

3 PPL Center hosts the second annual Allentown Indoor Auto Racing event, 7:30 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event sold out last year and this year was expanded to two days. It will feature Three-Quarter Midgets both nights, and Slingshots and Champ Karts as the second class each night.
