Before moving to North Lauderdale in 1975, Commissioner Gary Frankel was born and raised in Brooklyn. Frankel remembers New York before, during and after the World Trade Center.
“I have special fondness and sadness involving the Twin Towers. I used to patronize stores in that neighborhood [before it was torn down to make way for the Trade Center] when it was called “Radio Row,” said Frankel. After the neighborhood was replaced and the towers opened, Frankel’s father worked for the Post Office overseeing mail carriers who serviced four of the World Trade Center buildings. Frankel worked for a gold company located on one of the upper floors.
