When you watch her on stage, you’ll notice how IU likes to match her mics to her outfit and the song’s mood. She even collects custom-made mics, already having been spotted with at least 12 in different colours and designs.

At a November 2019 concert, she showed off a microphone in glossy black engraved with her nickname, saying that she finally had her dream mic – her tenth at that point.

Her newest model is a matching mic and in-ear monitor that she received as a gift from J. Estina, a jewellery brand that she models for.

IU lives in a lavish flat in Seoul’s Raemian Caelitus, a development of three 56-storey luxury buildings with great views of the Han river, and decked out with facilities from swimming pools and gyms to a sky bridge. Her neighbours include her best friend Yoo In-na, Zico and Crush.

She also purchased a US$3.9 million building in Gwacheon, close to her family home, which is now used as her personal studio, her mother’s office, and also as a space for other musicians to work in.

IU and her Gucci bling

IU was appointed a Gucci ambassador last year, joining a growing number of K-celebs with luxury brand tie-ups, and fans have been watching the brand take up more of her wardrobe space ever since. In February 2020, IU was seen dressed head-to-toe in Gucci at Incheon Airport when heading for a fashion show in Milan. She styled together a US$3,800 chequered Gucci wool cape-coat, a US$2,490 Gucci 1955 Horsebit small top handle bag and US$980 Gucci Zumi mid-heel ankle boots.

She’s showed off Gucci bags in other settings too, like the US$2,250 GG Marmont small shoulder bag in pastel blue leather, which she matched with a navy cardigan.

She likes to order food for delivery – a lot

IU is at the top of her game in music and acting, but when she gets back home, she’s just like the rest of us. In a recent interview with W Korea she said that when she’s IU, she’s all professional and sharp, but as Lee Ji-eun (her real name), she chills out and spends most of the time lying around and being lazy.

One thing IU likes to splurge on is ordering delivery food. Another of her best friends, singer and actress Ji-yeon, appeared with her on reality show On & Off and revealed that IU is a VVIP member of a delivery service app. IU admitted that she wakes up her heart fluttering while she thinks of what to order.
