I am having trouble finding out how to video chat my contacts with my Samsung Galaxy S III. My friend has an S II and seems to have a feature to video chat. He told me it does not charge data.
I tried Tango, but it's really not that good, in my opinion. There's no way to use it on Windows, and there's no visible way to turn off notifications.
Dalsan M 2013-07-10 01:18:40 There is no such thing as a video calling app for phones that will not use a data connection of some kind, whether through the cell phone provider or Wi-Fi. There may be some video calling apps and other apps that require data connections where the cell phone service provider will not charge service fees for using it. As far as I know, Verizon has no such app with similar abilities (at least for anyone without an iPhone with the FaceTime app). Justin Pot 2013-07-09 17:08:51 Yeah, if you're using WiFi there's no data charge. It's also worth noting that some carriers don't charge for data with some programs. Are you and your friend using the same carrier? If so, contact your carrier to figure out the details. Justin Pot 2013-07-09 19:07:26 Yeah, it would depend completely on the carrier – the phone has nothing to do with it. Here are you? Wikipedia says Claro offers free video calls in Puerto Rico, but only if you're using their VideoCall service. That might be it... Vipul J 2013-07-09 17:06:50 Why not Skype using a Wi-Fi connection? Cristián T 2013-07-09 17:12:52 Because I cannot connect to Wi-Fi on the go. I need to find a way that I can video chat, on the go, without charging data. Jan F 2013-07-09 12:19:51 The best answer I can give is "data rates apply".Whether the video chart is charged or not simply depends on your mobile contract. If your provider charges you for mobile data you generate it doesn't matter which application you use. Jan F 2013-07-09 18:26:27 Sorry, to answer correctly:If you call their phone number it will NOT be counted as mobile data but will be counted to your telephone minutes. If you call someone via an internet based chat like Skype or Google Talk it will be counted as data.
