A Miramar woman said the food she ordered from a Pollo Tropical in Miramar was infested with maggots.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation sent investigators to the fast-food store on Tuesday, but did not find any bugs, said Meg Shannon, communications director for the state agency.

The department’s previous inspections of the restaurant — in May and November 2004 — were also negative for any type of infestation.

On Monday, Nicole Nogues ordered a fish and yellow rice entrM-ie with a side salad from a drive thru at Miramar Parkway and Southwest 148th Avenue.

Nogues said she ate most of the meal, then her sister, who did not eat, started cleaning up the table. The sister said she saw the maggots in both food containers.

Nogues took the containers back to the restaurant, and filed a police report in Miramar. “We were out there today and saw no bugs of any kind. But we did see a handful of noncritical items,” she said. “We will go back there in 14 days to make sure those items were corrected.”

Kim Miller, director of marketing for Pollo Tropical, said company and independent inspectors were hired to evaluate conditions at the restaurant Tuesday. They both found nothing, Miller said.
