It’s got everything from exotic fruit to designer hand bags, food trucks to sports memorabilia. It’s the newly opened Coconuts Flea Market in Margate.
Located in the Saveology Plaza, 5259 Coconut Creek Parkway, the market has 110,000 square feet for vendors to sell their wares, but only the new stuff, according to Coconuts Flea Market owner Sid Moskin.
“We’re going to have everything under the sun,” Moskin said. “Clothing, cell phones… and so many different things. That includes sneakers, hair care products, perfume, but only new items. The only thing allowed in here that is not new is real antiques or real collectibles. No knockoffs. No fake anything.”
Moskin signed a 50-year lease for the building and charges $600 a month per 100 square feet of booth space.
Besides each of the more permanent individual shops, the market also will have space and tables for those interested in selling items by the day, week or month — garage sale style — for $35 to $40 a day.
“We serve people who maybe want to work one day a week and make some extra money, or work the weekend,” Moskin said. “There are no restrictions on them. They pay… to get a table, then they are in business.”
The space for the non-permanent rentals was originally planned to open in a separate store front at the east end of the plaza — called the Coconuts Flea Market Annex — but Moskin decided to wait on that location and have those interested in temporary spots located in the main building so the market could open sooner.
“We’ll fill the Annex up later, slowly spreading from the center of the building, including the shops [in the strip mall],” said Coconuts Flea Market Representative Rob Adler. “The Annex is now a Phase 2 [project]. We had to do that in order to consolidate, so we could open in time for the holidays.”
The market was also originally supposed to have restaurants in a food court, but time constraints forced a new plan: gourmet food trucks. According to Adler, about three to five food trucks will be available in the parking lot daily for market customers, and seating will be available in the building.
The market is also providing space for a couple of charities, ScentsAbility and Artists with Autism, to give back to the community. Moskin welcomed other charities approaching him.
“Anything I can do for charities I want to do,” Moskin said.
