On Thursday, UnivisiM-sn airs the finale of its novela El Privilegio de Amar (The Privilege to Love), a Televisa remake of an ’80s classic that has been on the air for seven months. The finale will encore on Friday at 9 p.m.

El Privilegio, featuring Adela Noriega and RenM-i Strickler, was the most successful drama of 1998 in Mexico, and earned Noriega the TV y Novelas prize for best lead actress. In the United States, the novela became one of UnivisiM-sn’s hits of 2002.

The original, Cristal, which catapulted Jeannette Rodriguez and Carlos Mata to stardom, was created for the Venezuelan network Venevision by Cuban novela writer Delia Fiallo. The remake was written by Mexican screenwriter Liliana Abud.

At 9 p.m. Sunday, UnivisiM-sn will air Haz Tuyo el Privilegio (Make Yours the Privilege), a two-hour special produced and hosted by Abud. The special will feature interviews with the stars and behind-the-scenes footage. An encore airs at noon Tuesday.

On Monday, UnivisiM-sn will air two back-to-back episodes of its 8 p.m. novela Las VM-mas del Amor (The Roads of Love). Las Vias is scheduled to conclude in January with no replacement announced yet.

El Privilegio will be replaced by Entre el Amor y el Odio (Between Love and Hate), a Televisa drama that premieres Jan. 6.

HOLIDAY FARE

UnivisiM-sn and Telmundo have holiday programming on tap next week.

On Tuesday, UnivisiM-sn airs the 1980 drama Jesus, el NiM-qo Dios (Jesus, the Son of God), starring Jorge Rivero and Guillermo Murray. The two-hour movie airs at 7 p.m.

Immediately following, UnivisiM-sn will broadcast Navidad MM-agica Disney (Magical Disney Christmas), a musical extravaganza from Orlando. Hosted by Karla Martinez, the hourlong special features Latin artists including Olga TaM-qon, Juanes, Jennifer Pena, Odalys and Control, performing Christmas classics and their latest hits.

Navidad MM-agica Disney airs on Christmas Eve, at 9 p.m., with an encore at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

At noon on Christmas Day, UnivisiM-sn will broadcast an encore presentation of Nuestra Navidad (Our Christmas), a two-hour musical co-produced by Emilio Estefan and the network. Taped live before an audience in a Miami nightclub and hosted by Mexican comedian Adal Ramones, it features Elvis Crespo, Los Kumbia Kings, Las Ketchup, Jaci Velasquez, Cabas, Rabanes, Banda El Recodo and Ana BM-arbara.

At 7 p.m., UnivisiM-sn airs 1969’s Jesus, MarM-ma y JosM-i. The two-hour movie follows the life of Jesus as a child and as a young man. It’s followed at 9 p.m. by a special edition of Don Francisco Presenta (Don Francisco Presents), hosted by Mario Kreutzberger. Guests will discuss how Spanish-speaking cultures celebrate Christmas around the world.

On Dec. 24 and 25, Telemundo will run a marathon of holiday-themed movies. The only programs running in regular time slots are the newsmagazine Al Rojo Vivo at 5 p.m.; the local and national newscasts at 6 p.m.; the miniseries Feliz Navidad, Mama (Merry Christmas, Mom) at 7 p.m.; and the reality series Protagonistas de la MM-zsica at 8 p.m.

EL CLON ENDS ON TOP

Telemundo couldn’t be happier. The Brazilian novela El Clon — a drama that shed light on Islam and the science of human cloning — ended last week with a ratings romp.

The broadcast of the last episode, which aired Dec. 10, was seen in nearly 1.1 million Hispanic households, the greatest audience for a novela finale in Telemundo’s recent history — including the finale of Colombian phenomenon Betty La Fea.

El Clon, which has been replaced by another Brazilian production, Terra Esperanza (Land of Hope), was deemed by many as the year’s best and most original novela.
