Fort Lauderdale’s Don’s Team recently won the Independent Softball Association National Championship, Women’s Class A Division in Marietta, Ga. The team competed against 41 other squads in the tourney.
Coached and sponsored by Don Riemer of Margate, the team was led by ISA All-American players Robin Allen of North Palm Beach, Chris Williams of Oakland Park, Bobbi Jo Boyle of Pompano, Leslie Lavat of Fort Lauderdale and Barb Greve of Pembroke Pines.
Other team members are Fort Lauderdale’s Robyn Tavlin and Donna Ahern, Dee Dee Henderson of Sunrise, Terry Weech of Plantation, Katie Nolan of North Lauderdale and twins Andrea and Angela Rogers of West Palm Beach.
The team is competing in the National Softball Association Championships this weekend in Charlotte, N.C. The winning team members receive championship rings.
“I’ve been coaching most of the girls for 13 years,” Riemer said, “and I told them, ‘this year, I want the ring.’ I think they can do it.”
Boating
A four-week safe boating and seamanship course will be presented by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3-2 beginning Tuesday.
Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8.
