Delray Beach 18-year-old Coco Gauff withstood a second-set challenge from Romanian Elena Gabriela Ruse on Wednesday, winning 6-2, 7-6 (4) in the second round of the U.S. Open.

Gauff’s victory set up a third-round match with Madison Keys, a former Boca Raton resident.

Keys, the 2017 U.S. Open runner-up, outlasted Italy’s Camili Giorgi 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (6).

In their one previous matchup, the 27-year-old Keys, rallied by Gauff 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 in January in Adelaide, Australia.

Gauff and Keys will play Friday, with the time to be determined.
