BOCA RATON — A massive fire ravaged a house early Tuesday morning, officials say, though no one was home at the time. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
About 2 a.m., Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the home in the 6000 block of Le Lac Road in northwestern Boca Raton, according to a media release.
When they arrived, they found fire going through the roof of the 12,000-square-foot, two-story home. They checked the home and found no one inside. The residents were nearby at the time and came to the scene during the fire, according to Fire Rescue.
About 55 firefighters responded to the scene and battled the fire, which took just under three hours to control. Pictures shared by the fire department show the hollowed-out home engulfed in flames as firefighters spray from an aerial ladder.
The fire required so many units that the 911 dispatch center moved additional units into the area in case there were other emergencies nearby.
No injuries were reported, according to the release. Fire investigators remained on scene as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, determining the cause.
