The Levenger store at the Town Center at

Boca Raton

mall, which sold “tools for serious readers” is closing its doors officially Tuesday, co-founder and chief executive officer Steve Leveen said Monday.

The writing goods retailer and book publisher is offering a 60 percent discount off in-stock merchandise, according to an e-mail notice sent to customers Monday.

Leveen said the lease for the Boca store, which opened in November 2007, was signed “at the top of the market,” but sales “never rivaled that of the other stores up north.”

Levenger also has stores in Boston, Chicago and the Washington, D.C., area.

The Boca store has a staff of eight full-time and part-time employees, Leveen said.
