Our Animal Crossing: New Horizons farming guide will introduce you to the new foods to grow that were added along with the meals in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ big new 2.0 update. We’ll teach you where to find produce starts and wild crops to get your farm started.
Crops and produce for food and drink
There are five new kinds of produce to grow in the 2.0 update:
- Carrots
- Potatoes
- Sugarcane
- Tomatoes
- Wheat
The new crops grow like flowers or trees — just plant them, water them, and wait three days. They always provide at least one — usually more — of the crop you grew, so you can expand your farm quickly.
Once you have wheat and sugarcane, you can turn them into flour, whole-wheat flour, sugar, and brown sugar at a kitchen or stove.
Other fruits and vegetables show up in Animal Crossing: New Horizons recipes, like Pumpkins (specifically Orange Pumpkins), the various fruit trees that have been in the game since the beginning, and even Clumps of Weeds.
Purchase Produce Starts from Leif
The easiest way to start your farm is to buy Produce Starts from Leif. Either wait for him to visit your island (he’ll show up one day a week) or progress Harv’s co-op until Leif opens his stall in Harv’s Island Plaza.
Once you’ve got access to Leif, he’ll sell two Produce Starts for 280 bells each.
Take Kapp’n’s Boat Tours
If you’re looking for produce but you don’t want to (or can’t) go the Lief route, you have another option: Take boat tours with Kapp’n for 1,000 Nook Miles per trip (with a limit of one boat tour per day). There’s a (tiny) chance that Kappa’s will take you to an island a farm growing carrots, potatoes, sugarcane, tomatoes, and wheat.
