Sign of the timesCypress trees reach out of the Everglades as a shallow pond feeds them precious water in the 99-degree heat. In this June 23, 1998 photo, the trees show where water once ran in other times, causing its own problems to the animals and birds in the area. With water being so low, animals like the otter, and alligators, snakes and raccoons can easily feed on the fish in these areas.
