Fishing is a simple way to gather food for you and your group in Valheim. If you have the patience and find a decent spot, you can catch plenty of fish to keep you all fed for days.

To start fishing in Valheim, you need a fishing rod and fish bait, which can both be bought from Haldor. The rod will set you back 350 coins, while each bit of bait will cost 10 coins each.

How to Fish in Valheim

To fish in Valheim, simply make your way to a river or ocean, and keep an eye out for an area populated with schools of fish. They are easy to spot just beneath the surface of the water.

Next, cast your line out by pressing and holding the left mouse key, the longer you hold before release, the further the line will go. Once you let the bobber out, if you see bubble around where your cast is, this means you have some fish interested.

If the bobber dips beneath the water, click the right mouse key and hold to quickly hook the fish, you will get a "hooked" notification if you did it successfully. This will also start the process of reeling the fish in.

As your reeling in the fish, keep an eye on your stamina bar. Once the fish is close enough, you'll have an option to pick it up with your hands quickly, do this before the fish swims away. If you don't have enough stamina, the fish has a higher chance of getting away.
