Into The Woods

Whether you’re looking for Halloween costume inspiration or just need a dramatic formal outfit (like this Burton-esque look from Alice + Olivia), take a page from the darker side of fairytales for your next fall look. Alternative Halloween outfit: just go as a slutty something-or-other. Sexy Pocari Sweat, anyone?

Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet fall collection: Dress, $7,290.

Halloween Costume Ideas

This year I asked my fellow inhabitants of HK Magazine HQ what they were being for Halloween. Three of the ideas are awesome—the rest of the team sucks at costumes. I’ve also collected a couple of easy movie-inspired ideas that I’m hoping to see stumbling down Wyndham next weekend—while snapping selfies.

Movie Magic

Groot from “Guardians of the Galaxy”
This is hands-down my favorite movie and character of the year. Please, someone do this.
Mask, $790, Matteo Party (3/F, 530-532 Jaffe Rd., Causeway Bay, 2342-8887, ).

Anna and Elsa from “Frozen”
I wasn’t a fan of Disney’s return to musicals but everyone else was. Good BFF costume.
Dresses, from $1,088, Cosplay HK ().

Maleficent
Sadly the movie sucked but Angelina was deliciously wicked. Don’t forget the cheekbones and red lips!
Dress and horns, $790; staff, $600, Matteo Party.

Ninja Turtles
Gave this the college try and I still think it’s better than any of the store-bought costumes available. You’ll need a green long-sleeved top, leggings/trousers and shoes; green body paint; brown backpack; some kind of a chest plate; red, purple, orange or blue ribbons and eye mask; weapons; pizza.
All of these items are easily available at Matteo Party, Pottinger Street and Paisanos.

Wednesday Addams
Classic and an easy go-to. Long black braids, black long sleeve dress, white collared shirt, black tights and black shoes. Got a man who doesn’t like to dress up? Convince him to wear his dark blue or black striped shirt and call him Pugsley. Coincidental couples costume!

Editors' Picks

Dorothy from “Wizard of Oz”
Charley Mulliner’s pick: “I freakin’ hate that film—it’s haunted me since I was a child, so to dress up as Dorothy would be my Halloween nightmare.”
Pottinger Street, Central.

Sumo wrestler
Adele Wong’s pick: “I had to order mine from England so good luck!” (Thanks a bunch.)
Inflatable suit, Future Leisure (2559-2995, ).

Saucy Hot Dog
Kate Springer’s pick: “I’m going to be a saucy hot dog, so I can show off these hot buns.”
Goldin Trading (Room 1215, Lladro Centre, 72 Hoi Yuen Rd., Kwun Tong, 2541-4598, goldintrading.com).

Think Pink

Breast Cancer Awareness month is coming to an end so if you haven’t shown your support already then quickly book yourself in for tea at Mo Bar (15 Queen’s Rd. Central, 2132-0077) for the “Perfect in Pink and Purple” (from $278) afternoon set. You can also pick up a new pair of Uggs from the special “Pink Ribbon Collection” or purchase soft pink teardrop earrings from Jan Logan. My personal favorite  breast cancer awareness deal is the Eos Pink Pack ($107 from Sasa) that’s packed with lip balms and lotion.

A portion of all of the proceeds from each offer will benefit the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation.
