Following a national trend, next month, Delray Medical Center will open a $10 million stand-alone emergency center on Jog and Lantana roads in the Pinewood Square shopping plaza, alongside T.J. Maxx and a dry cleaners.

Designed to minimize wait times, the emergency center is an extension of Delray Medical Center’s Emergency Department and will offer the same treatment and diagnostic services serving about 40,000 residents in the neighboring communities.

“We’re bringing emergency care closer to the community,” said medical director Henry Wagner. “Patients can be treated quickly and return home quickly.”

A subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare, which has two other free-standing emergency centers in the state, the center will be staffed by experienced nurses and ER physicians, lab and respiratory technicians and a pharmacist.

The center features eight state-of-the-art treatment rooms, two trauma bays for critical care, advanced CT Scan, X-ray and ultrasound imaging, lab and pharmacy services, respiratory, stroke and chest pain care.

“We provide the same services as our main campus,” said Wagner, who has been on staff at Delray Medical Center for 34 years. “We have full capability 24 hours, seven days a week.”

He estimates the center will see 20 to 30 patients per day.

ER director Nicole Jackson emphasized the quality of the staff and care.

“All rooms have computers so all information is at our fingertips,” she said. “Portable X-ray machines mean patients are able to stay in their rooms and don’t have to be moved.”

The center will feature dedicated rooms for bariatrics, behavioral health, OB/GYN and trauma patients, and is equipped to handle conditions such as: lacerations, orthopedic and sports injuries, dehydration, abdominal pain, respiratory problems, head injuries, strokes and heart attacks.

“This endeavor allows us to extend our services into an underserved area and provide superior healthcare to a larger population,” Mark Bryan, CEO, said in a statement. “As a result, residents of Lake Worth and surrounding neighborhoods will have the opportunity to experience prompt, around-the-clock care close to home.”

The center is at 6250 Lantana Road. Visit
