The Coconut Creek post office is closer to being re-named after a fallen soldier in Iraq.

The U.S. House on Thursday passed a resolution re-naming the post office after Army Specialist Daniel Agami, who was killed June 21, 2007 while serving in Baghdad.

“By naming the Coconut Creek post office in his honor, we will ensure that his memory never fades,” said U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, D-Boca Raton, who introduced the legislation. The post office at 4233 W. Hillsboro Blvd. will keep its legal name, the Coconut Creek Postal Store, but the plaque re-naming is expected to be erected in the lobby.

“We are deeply touched and completely honored… and we extend our deepest gratitude to all those that are involved in making it happen,” said Agami’s mother, Beth Agami, on Friday as her family toured Washington, D.C., with Klein. “We hope that people will not only remember Daniel when they see his name, but all the other brave soldiers that have sacrificed their lives as well.”

Agami’s parents live in Parkland. The bill is headed to the U.S. Senate.
