That renegade cow urging to “eat mor chikin” is coming to Deerfield Beach, and diehard fans are likely already staking out their camping spaces in the parking lot.
Chick-fil-A plans to open a new restaurant Sept. 9 at 3648 W. Hillsboro Blvd., outside the Deerfield Mall west of Powerline Road. The opening is set to create more than 80 jobs and give 100 people a chance to eat free Chick-fil-A meals for a year.
At its grand openings, Chick-fil-A gives 100 people in line a card loaded with one year’s worth of free Chick-fil-A meals, 52 meals in total. The award is open to people 18 years or older and who live in certain zip codes near the restaurant. Identification is required. If more than 100 people are in line when doors open at 6 a.m., a drawing will determine the 100 winners.
The Chick-fil-A grand opening campout has become a tradition around the country.
On an unusually cold December night last year, fans pitched tents and spent hours playing video games to be among the lucky “First 100” though the doors of a new restaurant on North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale.
In Deerfield Beach, as part of its grand opening celebration Chick-fil-A is asking the community to donate children’s books to be given to Quiet Waters Elementary School in Deerfield Beach. Books will be collected at the new restaurant Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sept 9 and 10, from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Chick-fil-A in Deerfield Beach will feature two drive-thru lanes and an indoor play area for children. The chain’s menu includes chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, salads, shakes and waffle fries.
The restaurant will be operated by Brent Baillio, who grew up in Coral Springs and who once worked at a Chick-fil-A at the Coral Square Mall in Coral Springs.
The Deerfield Beach location is among 88 new restaurants Chick-fil-A plans to open nationwide this year.
