Fortnite is full of skins that portray the player character as a full on badass. One of the game's great strengths is how it resolutely refuses to limit that empowerment to its male characters. Instead, it offers a wide array of female characters just as intimidating, powerful and inspiring as its male characters. Here are the five most empowering Fortnite skins for women.
1. Red Knight
The Red Knight is one of Fortnite's oldest skins, a fact that bestows the skin with a suitable rarity. Her glowing red eyes and striking red and black color scheme give her an air of menace that works like a second layer of armor.
2. Valkyrie
Valkyrie takes Red Knight's intimidation factor to the next level. The level of detail and care that went into her design is clearly visible, from her frozen wing back bling to the glyphs on her armor. It doesn't hurt that her Frostwing Glider is easily the coolest in the game (no pun intended).
3. Ice Queen
The Ice Queen doesn't inspire the same awe or fear Valkyrie does. Her empowerment is more unique. Where Valkyrie is empowered in a traditionally masculine sense, using physical strength as a signifier of inner strength, the Ice Queen instead uses magic and force of personality to command her horde of Ice Fiends. She represents a wider understanding of feminine strength, making her all the more badass.
4. Lynx
Lynx is a hero for the millennial age. Transforming from a web-surfing, bubblegum chewing woman into a Batman-style superhero, Lynx embodies a wide range of feminine identity. She's smart, strong and multifaceted, making her a truly empowered woman.
5. Calamity
Calamity takes the casual/killer dichotomy of Lynx and pushes it to the next level. Both were reactive skins, but Calamity's transformation was the more dramatic. She went from provocative cowgirl to true Old West gunslinger, in a small way reclaiming the image of her body even as she led the fight against the Cube Monsters flooding Fortnite's world.
