MIAMI — A Dade County grand jury on Friday announced that three Dade County residents were indicted in the murder of a British businessman who disappeared almost two years ago, Metro-Dade police said.

Albert Alexander Lucio, 29, of Miami, was arrested on Thursday after sealed indictments were issued. Wayne Merced, 26, of Miami, also was arrested. Magaly Carr, 29, remains at large.

Howard Bates, 43, of Kent County, England, had come to Miami in February 1991 to check on suspicions that Lucio, a business partner, had cheated him, police said. Bates had invested more than $1 million in a business called Bolden Surgical Products.

Three days after his arrival, Bates disappeared — apparently killed, police said. His body has not been found.
